A325/A325M History
This specification covers two types of quenched and tempered, steel, metric heavy hex structural bolts having a minimum tensile strength of 830 MPa (Note 1).
Formerly under the jurisdiction of Committee F16 on Fasteners, this specification was withdrawn in May 2016 and replaced by Specification F3125/F3125M for High Strength Structural Bolts, Steel and Alloy Steel, Heat Treated, 120 ksi (830 MPa) and 150 ksi (1040 MPa) Minimum Tensile Strength, Inch and Metric Dimensions. Specification F3125/F3125M supersedes and replaces specifications; A325, A325M, A490, A490M, F1852 and F2280. The unified Specification F3125/F3125M corrects known inconsistencies in the original documents and the combination will assure that requirements of the products covered under the original standards stay aligned.

Product Description
The most common heavy hex head screw, these steel screws meet ASTM A325 regulations for
structural joints, such as mating I-beams and scaffolding. Material meets ASTM F3125
specifications for quality. Dimensions meet ASME B18.2.6 specifications.
Partially threaded screws come with precise threaded and unthreaded portions, allowing you to place
only the stronger unthreaded portion (grip) in joints subjected to sideways forces.
Hot-dipped galvanized screws have a thick coating for excellent corrosion resistance. To ensure
compatibility, use these screws with hot-dipped galvanized steel nuts.
ASTM A325M structural bolts are designed for steel to steel connections. Because they are used in
such a specific application, they have dimensional characteristics that are unique and limited compared
to most other fastener grades. This includes stock sizes available in the market place, length tolerances,
short thread lengths, and the actual head dimensions are the same as any heavy hex head bolt
(Dimensions per ASME B18.2.6M 2012).
ASTM A325M covers high strength structural bolts used in structural steel connections. A325Ms have
a heavy hex head, a full body diameter, and are normally short in overall length since they are connecting
steel to steel. Unlike other ASTM grades, A325M is specific not only in the chemical and mechanical
requirements, but also in the allowed configuration. These bolts are manufactured from a medium-carbon
or medium-carbon alloy steel that is quenched and tempered to develop the desired mechanical properties.
